Patient Paperwork during an MCI
This memo is to inform services that during facility (hospital, SNF, Assisted Living Center) evacuations and declared MCIs, any paperwork received regarding the patient must remain with the patient upon arrival at the emergency department.
During recent incidents there have been occasions where patients being transported from scenes have face sheets with them that are not being left in the emergency department. We understand that this information is useful for the provider in completing their paperwork, but it is a necessity for the emergency department in these types of situations, especially when it involves patient follow-up for future placement after the active EMS response has ended. This is particularly important if it is a facility evacuation.
