The Metropolitan Boston EMS Council would like to wish everyone a Happy EMS Week. This year, EMS Week is being celebrated across the nation the week of May 19-25. This is a special time to acknowledge and thank all the Emergency Service Personnel who provide lifesaving care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We invite everyone in the Region to please take a moment to recognize those EMS providers around you during this special week.
To all Region IV Emergency Service Personnel: we want to take this opportunity to recognize the exceptional service and care you provide year-round to the residents in the local area, though never more so than this last year, during the pandemic. EMS Week brings forward the significant contributions made by highly trained members of the EMS community who have the responsibility of caring for their patients with dignity and respect in times of crisis without anticipation of reward or recognition of their efforts.
The 2024 EMS Week theme is "Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future." As ACEP reminds us, “EMS is usually all about the moment. Thinking about your last patient could distract you from what’s happening to the person lying on the stretcher in front of you right now. Worrying too much about the next call isn’t too helpful when you have no idea what it might bring. But the past holds immense lessons—whether it’s the experience of the people who train us or the struggles and triumphs from EMS’s earliest days.
This year, as we recognize the 50th anniversary of the first National EMS Week, we honor those who came before us, especially those who challenged the status quo and raised the bar for all of us. At the same time, we look forward to building on their efforts and committing ourselves to forge a future for the next generation of EMS professionals to serve their communities.
Every day, you are called to help others through one of the most stressful and frightening times of their lives. Every day, you can be called upon to provide a sense of security and relief during chaotic situations. Every day, you are called upon to do the work that only a select few can do. Every day, you always rise to the challenge.
As your Regional EMS Council, we are pleased to serve as a resource and work closely with you to coordinate and improve Emergency Medical Services in the Region. When we all work together, we truly are “EMS STRONG.” Thank you for all your continuing support and cooperation!
Please check out our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for links and information about national and local EMS Week information, as well as information on personal safety and mental health to help protect all Emergency Service personnel who are experiencing adverse effects of their experiences during this crisis.
Be Safe.
